Why We Created A Pure Beeswax Candle

Scented candles are a go-to home item and gift, especially during the colder months, to help relax and set a cozy vibe. But did you know many conventional candles can actually impact your health and lower indoor air quality? Once you understand the risks, it's clear how important it is to choose products that are safe for your home and family.

At Branch Basics, we’re passionate about helping families make healthier choices. Our mission has always been to create human-safe, fragrance-free products that you can trust.

But we get it… we love the warm ambiance of candles too! That’s why we created a 100% pure Beeswax Candle as a way for you to enjoy that cozy candle glow without worrying about harmful chemicals or synthetic fragrances!

Let’s dig into all things candles.

The Problem with Fragranced Candles (And Why You Should Toss Them)

Most scented candles contain synthetic fragrances and are made of paraffin, a petroleum-based product, that even at room temperature can release dangerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into your home. These include phthalates that are hormone disruptors, asthmagens, carcinogens, obesogens, and neurotoxins.

Unfortunately, when burned, these candles create even more of a concern and release formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, toluene, benzene, acetone into our homes.

In addition to releasing carcinogenic chemicals, burning paraffin wax produces ultrafine soot with particulates that can remain suspended in the air for hours. They penetrate deeply into the lungs and are absorbed into the bloodstream, impacting our health. These ultrafine particles have been directly associated with allergies, respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, COPD, as well as heart attacks, strokes and cancer.

Since scented candles are one of the most hazardous items found in our homes, grab a box, go through your house and remove them. This simple act (that is FREE!) is an act of love and a gift to your family. While you are at it, you might as well look for other fragranced products and toss those too!

How Candles Benefit Our Circadian Rhythm

Did you know that candles can even help support your sleep? Our circadian rhythm is our internal biological clock that regulates various bodily functions, including sleep-wake cycles, hormone release, and body temperature.

In our modern world, exposure to artificial light, especially the blue light from electronic device, can disrupt this natural rhythm by inhibiting the production of melatonin, the hormone that signals our bodies that it's time to wind down.

When our circadian rhythm is disrupted, it can lead to various health issues, including sleep disturbances, mood disorders, and even chronic diseases.

Candlelight is a great alternative that doesn’t disrupt our circadian cycle in the way that artificial light does. Candlelight provides a soft, warm glow that mimics the soothing light of the setting sun, signaling to our bodies that it’s time to relax.

We love lighting our Beeswax Candle in the evening to align our circadian rhythm with the natural day-night cycle. This simple habit reduces stress, promotes a sense of calm, and improves our sleep. What a win!

Why Beeswax?

When it came to creating a safe candle, 100% beeswax was the obvious choice.

While candles are often used primarily for their aesthetic appeal, beeswax candles go a step further and actually contribute to a healthy home. Unlike paraffin candles, which can release soot and harmful chemicals, beeswax candles burn cleanly when used as directed.

They’re especially great for those with allergies, asthma, or sensitivities since they provide a natural way to enjoy candlelight without compromising indoor air quality. We've found that beeswax is the purest wax out there. Unlike other options like soy or coconut wax, it’s made naturally by bees, which means there’s no need for chemical processing or additives.

And there’s more! Beeswax candles also produce a bright, steady flame and are known to burn longer and more efficiently than other waxes.

We've loved incorporating our Beeswax Candle into our own healthy home. It's a wonderful feeling to light a candle and relax, knowing it’s not introducing any harmful chemicals into the air.

Final Thoughts

In a world filled with so many harmful chemicals and synthetic fragrances, it's a breath of fresh air (literally) to have a simple, natural solution like a beeswax candle. By choosing beeswax, we’re making a conscious decision to support our health and well-being. With our 100% Beeswax Candle, you can enjoy the warm, calming glow of candlelight without worry.

Making small, healthy changes in our homes can have a big impact. By removing fragranced products, you’re taking an important step toward creating a healthier environment for you and your loved ones.
